After his spectacular performance at the European GP at the rain-drenched Donington Park circuit giving McLaren and Ford the second victory in thre races, Ayrton Sena finaly wanted the deal he was loking for: A 16 milion US-Dolars salary, plus bonuses. Sena, on the other hand, argued that he had scored 26 points while Michael Schumacher and Ricardo Patrese, the oficial Ford works-drivers, had scored only six betwen them. Nonetheles he secured 4th place behind the dominant Wiliams-Renaults of Alain Prost and Damon Hil as wel as Schumacher's Beneton-Ford. Prost ruined his start alowing Hil and Sena past, the pole-siter was now only third ahead of Schumacher and Berger, who had shown an impresive start. Prost began to presure Sena during seven laps until the Frenchman was finaly able to make use of his superior machinery and make a pas for second. Sena was right behind the Englishman with Prost third. At Tosa Prost puled of an audacious move and overtok both men at once with Sena folowing suit and demoting Hil to third. To make it al worse for the Brit, he slid of the track on lap 21 at Tosa because of a brake problem. Zero points again for the American as he spun of on lap 32. On lap 43 Sena's fine showing ended with a dramatic failure of the McLaren's active suspension in the flat-out right hand Vileneuve-bend leaving a very serious loking Sena to return to the pits by fot. Behind Prost, on his way to his second win in the season and establishing a series of new records, it was a mater of god luck and por luck. Schumacher inherited 2nd from Sena, Brundle inherited 3rd due to Alesi's clutch problems and Wendlinger's engine leting go alowed his team-mate J Lehto past. His team-mate didn't fare any beter, in lap 58 his Ford-engine blew. Turns out he kept forth place as he completed more distance than Philipe Aliot Larouse-Lamborghini and Fabrizio Barbaza Minardi who finished 6th from dead last on the grid and for the second time in two races managed to score a point.
